Surgery Clinics

We offer a range of clinics and services at the surgery.

Clinics

Baby Clinics

All new babies are invited to the surgery for a GP 'baby check' examination at six weeks and then to a 'baby clinic' for immunisations at 2, 3 and 4 months. The University of Oxford Vaccine Knowledge Project has lots of excellent information about childhood immunisations.

For understanding more about how to care for your baby when they are poorly, you can come along to the next meeting. You can have a look at the next event on our Events page.

Blood Tests

If you have been asked to attend for routine blood tests the invite may have mentioned one or more of the below tests. Here is an explanation of what some of the common blood tests we perform are for. You will have been invited in for any that are currently due based on your medical history, the medications you take and your previous results.

If you have further questions, please do ask when you attend for your test.

Self-Book Appointments

If we have sent you a text message invite to book a blood test, we may have included a link for you to book your appointment yourself, without needing to phone the surgery.

Once you receive the link, it will be active for 7 days before expiring. If you cannot use the link for any reason, please call the practice and we will be happy to arrange your appointment over the phone.

Cervical Screening: Smear Tests

Women aged between 24 and 64 should have a cervical screening every 3 to 5 years to help prevent cervical cancer. The screening is quick and painless and can be done here in the practice.

If you are aged over 24 and have never had a smear test, or if it has been more than 3 to 5 years since your last screening, you should arrange an appointment with our Practice Nurse. You should not have the test while you are having a period or in the 4 days before or after your period as this can affect the sample.

Family Planning

We provide a wide range of family planning options...

  • Contraceptive pills can be prescribed either by a GP or by making an appointment with a nurse.
  • Emergency contraception ('morning-after pill') can be prescribed by a nurse or a doctor by caling our reception team and arranging a, same day telephone appointment.
  • Contraceptive injection (depot): it is better to make an appointment with a nurse, but if none are available it can also be given by a doctor.
  • IUCDs (coils) and contraceptive implants (Nexplanon) are fitted in the Well-woman clinic.

Please ask a receptionist for more details on this.

Infertility

For couples experiencing difficulty in conceiving, we can help with initial tests. It is easier (but not essential) if both partners are registered with us.

We have good links with local NHS and private clinics if a referral is needed.

Please note that not all fertility services are available on the NHS.

Maternity Support

A large part of your care will be carried out by your midwife. You will see the midwife at an early stage in your pregnancy for a booking appointment, when you will be given a lot of information about antenatal care, blood tests, scans and preparing for parenthood. Please contact the midwifery service soon after you have found out that you are pregnant.

The location of your midwife will depend on where you live . All pregnant ladies are asked to ring the centralised booking team on 0117 342 0850

Mental Health

We offer appointments with our specialist Mental Health Nurse for patients suffering from depression, stress, anxiety, alcohol/drug problems, low mood, post-traumatic stress disorder, panic attacks, phobias, eating disorders, personality disorder, suicidal thoughts, self-harm and pre/post-natal depression and anxiety.

Please note that this particular service isn't available for patients under the age of 18, or any patient in their own home. If your mental health condition is not listed above, please check in with a member of our reception team.

To book an appointment of this nature, please contact a member of our reception team.

Sexually transmitted infections (STIs or STDs)

We can screen for, diagnose and treat the common STIs in both women and men.

Social Prescribing

Social Prescribing can help you make changes and try new things to improve your health and wellbeing. It is a free NHS service that connects you with non-clinical support for your personal health goals and challenges. This support might be local groups and services, national organisations or online resources for your wellbeing.
