Test Results

How and when to obtain test results from the surgery

Getting your test results

All patients are encouraged to access their results via NHS online services such as the NHS app.

Please check your online account for the result at least one week after the test. You will also be able to view any comments your doctor may have left when reviewing the result.

If the result is abnormal or we need to communicate anything in relation to the result, we will contact you as usual.

Possible result outcomes

Normal – no action or follow up required

  • We will not contact you.

Please log in to your NHS account (through the NHS website or NHS App) to access further information on the result.

Abnormal

  • A clinician will inform you of the result.

This may be by text message, a phone call, or we may ask you to book an appointment for further discussion.

You will be able to access the result through your NHS account (through the NHS website or NHS App) after the clinician has communicated the result.

Blood results text service

Did you know that you can receive your results via your mobile?

If you consent and provide an up-to-date mobile telephone number, you can receive test results by text message. This will provide you with information about your test results as soon as they have been reviewed by a clinician, and will avoid you having to contact the surgery for your results. If you want to know more, then please ask our reception team when booking your next blood test appointment or ask our Healthcare Assistants.

If, however,  you would prefer to phone for your results, then that is no problem. All that we ask is that you call 0117 973 1201 for your results after 2pm, Monday to Friday.

Sometimes patients ask for their results at the front desk. If you wish to do this, then we politely remind you that this area is not fully confidential, and our receptionists will ask you for your consent at the time of the request. Remember that you can also ask us to print you a copy.

The results of blood and urine tests are usually available after 4pm, at least 5 working days after the specimen was taken.

Please note that many tests do take longer. The receptionist is able to advise you of the result of most of your tests once received from the hospital, but it is the doctor’s responsibility to ensure all your tests are reported, and it is our policy to advise you of any significant abnormal results.
