Travel Vaccinations
If you require any vaccinations relating to foreign travel, please complete our online travel form.
If you are unable to complete an online form, please contact the surgery.
It is important to make this initial appointment as early as possible - at least 8 weeks before you travel - as a second appointment will be required with the practice nurse to actually receive the vaccinations. These vaccines have to be ordered as they are not a stock vaccine. Your second appointment needs to be at least 2 weeks before you travel to allow the vaccines to work.
Some travel vaccines are ordered on a private prescription, and these incur a charge over and above the normal prescription charge. This is because not all travel vaccinations are included in the services provided by the NHS.
It is your responsibility to check which vaccines and/or malaria tablets you require, and also familiarise yourself with other recommended safe travel precautions.
NHS Vaccinations
The following vaccines are commonly recommended for many holiday destinations and are free of charge on the NHS
- Diphtheria, tetanus and polio (booster 10-yearly for travel)
- Hepatitis A (if you have had 2 vaccines, you have 25-year cover)
- Typhoid booster 3-yearly
- Cholera (not commonly required)
These can be administered at the surgery following an online assessment. Please ensure (if possible) you have your immunisation history for the past 10 years available for the online assessment.
Please call 0117 973 1201 to book a travel assessment. Alternatively, complete our online travel form
If you are unable to keep your vaccination appointment, please inform the Practice as soon as possible.
Private Vaccinations
Additional vaccines may be required for more extensive travel, backpacking, unusual destinations, longer stays of 4 weeks + or special situations such as working in healthcare projects or with animals. These would be given as private vaccines, and there will be a charge for these vaccines.
You need to contact a high street travel clinic or some pharmacies to arrange these vaccines and malaria prophylaxis medication.
